What is Base32 Encode and Decode?

Base32 writes data using only the letters A to Z and the digits 2 to 7. It is longer than Base64 but is easier to read aloud and does not mix up similar-looking characters.

What this tool does

Converts your text to UTF-8 bytes and encodes them in 5 bit groups, with equals signs as padding. Decoding reverses it and accepts lower case and missing padding.

How to use it

  1. Choose encode or decode.
  2. Paste your text or Base32 string.
  3. Copy the result.

Did you know?

  • Many two-factor authentication apps store their secret keys as Base32 text.
  • The standard is described in RFC 4648, the same document that defines Base64.
