What is Slugify?
A slug is the readable last part of a web address, for example the words in my-first-blog-post. The term comes from newspaper publishing, where a slug was a short working label for a story.
Good slugs are short, lower case and contain only letters, numbers and hyphens.
What this tool does
Converts your text into a slug: letters are made lower case, accents are removed, and anything that is not a letter or number is replaced by a single hyphen.
How to use it
- Type or paste a title, for example: Crรจme Brรปlรฉe Recipe!
- Leave Auto ticked or press the button.
- Copy the slug, for example: creme-brulee-recipe, and use it in your URL.
Did you know?
- Search engines read the words in a URL, so a descriptive slug can help people and crawlers understand a page.
- Changing a slug after a page is published breaks old links unless you add a redirect.
