What is Quadratic Equation Solver?
A quadratic equation has the form axยฒ + bx + c = 0. Its solutions, called roots, are the values of x that make the equation true.
What this tool does
Uses the quadratic formula. It shows the discriminant, which says how many real roots there are, both roots (as complex numbers when there are no real ones) and the vertex of the parabola.
How to use it
- Enter a, b and c.
- Read the roots and the discriminant.
- Use the vertex to find the highest or lowest point of the curve.
Did you know?
- If the discriminant is positive there are two real roots, if it is zero there is one, and if it is negative there are two complex roots.
- The quadratic formula has been known in some form for around 4,000 years.
