What is File Size Converter?
File size tells you how much storage a file takes. It is measured in bytes and larger units built on top of them, such as kilobytes and megabytes.
What this tool does
Converts a size between bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes and terabytes, using 1,024 as the step between each unit.
How to use it
- Enter a value.
- Choose the unit you are converting from and to.
- Read the converted size.
Did you know?
- Under the metric (SI) system a kilobyte is 1,000 bytes, but operating systems traditionally use 1,024. The IEC introduced the names kibibyte (KiB) and mebibyte (MiB) in 1998 to remove the confusion.
- This is why a drive sold as 1 TB shows less space on a computer: manufacturers use 1,000, while many systems count in 1,024.
