What is Password Generator?

A strong password is long, random and different for every account. People are poor at inventing random passwords, so a generator is safer than making one up.

A password generator creates a random mix of letters, numbers and symbols that is very hard for attackers to guess.

What this tool does

Creates a random password between 6 and 128 characters long, using the lowercase, uppercase, number and symbol options you choose, and rates its strength. It uses your browser's secure random number generator, and the password is never sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Set the length. Longer is stronger.
  2. Choose which character types to include.
  3. Press generate, copy the password and store it in a password manager.

Did you know?

  • Length matters most. Every extra character multiplies the number of possible passwords.
  • A 16 character password using all four character types has more than 100 bits of strength.
  • Never reuse a password. If one site is breached, reused passwords let attackers into your other accounts.
