Password Strength Checker

Estimate how strong a password is. It is checked in your browser and never sent anywhere.

What is Password Strength Checker?

A strong password is long, unpredictable and used for only one account. Weak ones, such as common words or simple patterns, are guessed in seconds by attackers.

This tool gives an estimate, not a guarantee, and everything stays in your browser.

What this tool does

Estimates the strength of a password in bits, from its length and the kinds of characters it uses, reduces the score for repeats, runs like 1234 and common words, and shows roughly how long it would take to guess at ten billion tries a second.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste a password.
  2. Read the strength, the time to guess and the advice.
  3. Try a longer password, or make a random one with the password generator.

Did you know?

  • Length matters more than complexity: each extra character multiplies the work for an attacker.
  • Do not test your real passwords on sites you do not trust. This page runs entirely in your browser and sends nothing.
