HMAC Generator
Generate HMAC Hash-based Message Authentication Code
What is HMAC Generator?
HMAC stands for Hash-based Message Authentication Code. It combines a message and a secret key with a hash function to produce a short code.
Only someone who knows the key can create the same code, so an HMAC proves that a message is genuine and has not been changed.
What this tool does
Calculates the HMAC of your text using the secret key you enter. You can choose SHA-1, SHA-256 or SHA-512 and show the result as hex or Base64.
How to use it
- Enter the message text.
- Enter your secret key.
- Choose the algorithm and the output format, then copy the HMAC.
Did you know?
- HMAC is defined in RFC 2104 and is widely used to sign API requests and to verify webhooks.
- The key is never sent along with the message. Share it only with the party that needs to verify the code.
- For new work, SHA-256 or SHA-512 is the safer choice over SHA-1.
