Hash Generator
Create MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes of any text. Everything is calculated in your browser.
MD5 and SHA-1 are no longer safe for security uses such as passwords or signatures. They are fine for checksums. Use SHA-256 or SHA-512 when in doubt.
What is Hash Generator?
A hash function turns any amount of text into a short fixed-length fingerprint. The same text always gives the same hash, and even a tiny change gives a completely different one.
Hashes are used to check that a file or message has not changed, and to store passwords safely.
What this tool does
Calculates the MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes of your text as you type, shown in hexadecimal, using your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
How to use it
- Type or paste your text.
- Read the hashes that appear below.
- Copy the one you need.
Did you know?
- MD5 was designed in 1991, and practical collisions were found in 2004. SHA-1 was broken in practice in 2017. Neither should be used for security.
- SHA-256 belongs to the SHA-2 family, published in 2001.
