What is Number Base Converter?

A number base is how many digits a counting system uses. People use base 10, computers use base 2 (binary), and programmers often use base 16 (hexadecimal) because it is a short way to write binary.

What this tool does

Converts a whole number written in binary, octal, decimal or hexadecimal into all four. Prefixes such as 0x and 0b are accepted, and numbers can be larger than normal computer integers.

How to use it

  1. Type the number.
  2. Choose the base it is written in.
  3. Read it in binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal.

Did you know?

  • One hexadecimal digit is exactly four binary digits, which is why hex is used to write bytes.
  • Web colors such as #FF8800 are three hexadecimal bytes for red, green and blue.
