What is Compound Interest Calculator?

Compound interest means you earn interest on your interest. Each time interest is added, the next interest is calculated on a larger amount, so money grows faster and faster over time.

What this tool does

Calculates the final amount from a starting amount, an annual interest rate, a number of years and how often interest is compounded. You can add a contribution each period, and it shows the total you put in and the interest earned.

How to use it

  1. Enter your starting amount, the yearly rate and the years.
  2. Choose how often the interest is compounded.
  3. Add a regular contribution if you save every period, then read the result.

Did you know?

  • The Rule of 72 estimates how long money takes to double: divide 72 by the interest rate. At 7 percent, about 10 years.
  • More frequent compounding gives slightly more interest, but the rate and the time matter far more.
