About cubic kilometers and cubic meters
A cubic kilometer (kmยณ) is a cube one kilometer on each side. It equals one billion cubic meters and is used for very large volumes such as lakes and glaciers.
A cubic meter (mยณ) is the SI unit of volume: the space inside a cube that is one meter on each side. It equals 1,000 liters.
