What is Readability Checker?
Readability scores estimate how hard a text is to read from the length of its sentences and words. Writers use them to make articles, web pages and instructions clearer.
What this tool does
Counts the words, sentences and syllables in your text and works out the Flesch reading ease score (higher is easier) and the Flesch-Kincaid grade level (the school grade needed to follow the text).
How to use it
- Paste your text.
- Read the scores.
- Shorten long sentences and replace long words to raise the score.
Did you know?
- A reading ease of 60 to 70 is plain English that most adults follow easily.
- Syllables are counted with a rule of thumb, so scores are estimates, and they work for English only.
